Harvey Stripes: In God We Trust

Having been in the rap game as a solo artist since 2009, Ottawa-raised, Toronto-based rapper Harvey Stripes has gone from having “A Dollar and a Dream” on his first full-length release to learning that with great power comes great responsibility on his second project “A Penny and a Nightmare”. Three years since his last full-length release, Harvey finds a balance between the hunger of a young hustler and the comfort of a seasoned boss with “In God We Trust” (“IGWT”) — while also perfecting his artistry.

“Mama Stripes told me to stand for something or you fall for anything. To her surprise, I stand for the streets,” says Harvey of the theme that permeates the project. “The growth of Harvey Stripes as an artist comes from the raw reality portrayed in my music.”

Coming just weeks after Harvey dropped his surprise EP, “Yours to Discover”,  “IGWT” puts only God ahead of the almighty dollar as the rapper explores topics straight from the hustler’s handbook. Regardless of the source of a listener’s income, Harvey says “IGWT” is the motivational soundtrack for chasing dollar signs.

Consisting of 12 tracks and two previously released bonus tracks, “IGWT” features carefully selected guest appearances from Yo Gotti, Blac Youngsta, Snootie Wild, Troy Ave, Tory Lanez, Hooks as well as Layla Hendryx, a signee to Harvey’s Dollars Never Disappear Music Group.

“Over the recording process, we’ve connected with my brothers at CMG,” he says of Memphis rapper Yo Gotti’s imprint, Collective Music Group. “Gotti, Youngsta and Snootie played a key role in the direction of the project. Soaking up game from the other side of the border is always a blessing.”

Andrew Triple-A, Murda Beatz, Deli, Dunlap, J-Mak, Yankee, Pro Logic and Miamii, meanwhile, supply production on “IGWT”.

Harvey Stripes is a Much Music Video Award-nominated artist who has been a mainstay on the Toronto hip-hop scene since 2009. His first full-length project, 2011’s “A Dollar and a Dream”, produced eight singles. Harvey followed the release in 2013 with “A Penny and a Nightmare”, which featured heavy-hitters such as Jadakiss, Juicy J, Jeremih and Tory Lanez. The rapper has toured with artists such as Wale, Meek Mill, Young Jeezy and Mario.
